The AMF, following its creation in 1983, spent two
years in researching and identifying inadequately served enlisted needs.
In early 1985, the Foundation defined its scope as seeking ways and
means to solve contemporary problems among all Air Force components
enlisted force not being addressed by the Department of Defense, Air
Staff, Congress, or the Administration.
Following this role definition, the Foundation
created its first humanitarian aid, non-traditional education, and
scholarship programs and thereby became the first
“all-enlisted” national independent charity in the annual
Combined Federal Campaign (CFC).
Funding to support AMF program services is derived
principally from donations to the AMF from the Air Force Sergeants
Association and its members and from donors during the annual Fall CFC
drive. The AMF is listed under its national charity
designation number 10517, permitting Air Force personnel a way to
support the AMF motto, "Taking Care of Our Own."
